The Dems should just skip the primaries and name Spartacus the nominee

It's always refreshing to find a politician who's willing to take one for the team. Someone who's willing to sacrifice him or herself for the greater good. Someone who's willing to step up and lead, and you know, create an "I am Spartacus" moment. Someone like the junior Senator from New Jersey: Cory Booker.

Booker is currently exhausted because, in between grandstanding during the Kavanaugh hearings, he's been out on the campaign trail, laboring on behalf of fellow Democrats in states like Nevada. Being out there rubbing elbows with the common folk has made him ask himself, WWSD – what would Spartacus do? And the answer is: run for president. As Booker told New York Magazine:

Of course the presidency will be something I consider. It would be irresponsible not to.

There's nothing quite like old-fashioned, virtuous martyrdom. Of course, if you're Cory Booker, you don't even need to bother trying to paint yourself as such a responsible, sacrificial guy when you get New York Magazine profiles like this. Here's the actual headline: "Can I Get a Hug? Cory Booker's got a lot of love to give, and he's betting that's what it will take to win in 2020."

Wait, responsibility and lots of love? Democrats might as well just skip the whole convention process and hand the nomination to Booker right now.

As a junior senator, those things aren't that easy to accomplish. But as President Spartacus? The possibilities are endless.

The New York Magazine puff piece doesn't stop at the headline. It compares Booker to Mr. Rogers and says: "Booker is radically, almost comically out of step with [Trump's] kind of politics and, on a human-being level, is unlike any person who's made a serious bid for the presidency in our lifetime."

So, in addition to being the most responsible, pro-hug human to ever grace the campaign trail, Booker also has an amazing vision for the country. He wants to legalize marijuana nation-wide, provide Medicare for all, and guarantee federal jobs for every American that needs one. As a junior senator, those things aren't that easy to accomplish. But as President Spartacus? The possibilities are endless.
