Chargers Doctor Punctured Tyrod Taylor's Lung With A Painkiller Injection

Los Angeles Chargers quarterbackĀ Tyrod TaylorĀ was a last-minute scratch against the Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday afterĀ suffering a punctured lung at the hands of a team doctor. Taylor was receiving a painkiller injection to his cracked ribs before kickoff when the doctor accidentally punctured his lung with the needle.

The team said he is out indefinitely while he recovers.

Chargers coachĀ Anthony LynnĀ toldĀ ESPN'sĀ Shelley Smith that the injury is not career-threateningĀ and said the doctor "just made a mistake."

"It happens," Lynn told Smith. "Tyrod's not angry, not upset."

The NFL Players Association has launched an investigation into the incident.

"Our medical and legal team have been in touch with Tyrod and his agent since Sunday collecting facts. An investigation has been initiated,"Ā George Atallah, the NFLPA's assistant executive director of external affairs, tweeted.

Taylor suffered two cracked ribs during the opening drive of the Chargers' Week 1 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Despite the injury, he played through the pain and finished the game.

Rookie quarterbackĀ Justin HerbertĀ is expected to get the nod this weekend when the Chargers host the Carolina Panthers.
