200-Lb Black Bear Caught While Roaming University of Tennessee's Campus

A 200-lb black bear was caught early Sunday morning by officials with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) while it was wandering around the University of Tennessee campus.

Officials said the bear was first spotted roaming around the school's grounds in Knoxville early Sunday morning, prompting University police to call wildlife officials out to try and capture the wild animal. UT police Lieutenant Doty and Officer Bomar assisted TWRA Seargent Roy Smith and officer Jeff Roberson remove the 200-pound bear from campus.

According to a post on the state agency's Facebook page, wildlife officials discovered the bear had become stuck inside Lindsey Nelson Stadium and quickly tranquilized and removed the bear from the area with the help of the UTPD officers.

The bear was later transported to a "more suitable bear habitat" and released in the Foothills Wildlife Management Area in Blount County.
