Ten years' worth of personal information from concealed weapon permit holders were exposed earlier this week. The Department of Justice confirmed the breach this week, which affected an unknown amount of people who were granted or denied a permit. The DOJ said they are offering credit monitoring services to people who were affected by the breach. The personal information included names, date of birth, driver's license numbers, addresses, and criminal history. Multiple dashboards were also affected by the breach, including the Assault Weapon Registry, Dealer Record of Sale, and Firearm Certificate Safety.

Following this confirmed data breach, gun advocate groups are calling for Attorney General Rob Bonta to resign, including the Gun Owners of America. Executive Director Sam Paredes told Fox News, "We believe that AG Rob Bonta is either massively incompetent, incredibly negligent, or willing to criminally leak information that he does not have the authority to leak. This is so egregious that he should resign. He has placed tens of thousands of abiding citizens in California in harm's way. That is not excusable with an 'I'm sorry.'"

This leak comes just days after the Supreme Court's ruling protecting the right for Americans to continue to conceal carry. The state's Department of Justice online portal for 2022 Dashboard Portal says it is temporarily unavailable. Fox reports legal action could be taken against the state for the breach in personal information. The AG's office did not respond to Fox's request for comment.
