Santa Clara County Fines 180 Retailers For COVID-19 Health Violations

Santa Clara County officials report issuing fines for social distancing violations to more than 180 retailers in the county. The 180 infractions came out inspections conducted at 427 stores over the Thanksgiving weekend and during the county's "enhanced Black Friday COVID-19 Business Compliance effort."

Fines range from a low of $250 to a high of $3,750 for paperwork violations. That includes failing to submit a social distancing plan or failing to post signs about social distancing and capacity limits in the store.

On the plus side, the County's enforcement officer says his inspectors didn't see many large crowds at the stores on Black Friday.

The coronavirus caseload in Santa Clara County has passed 35,000. Health officials confirmed about 800 new cases yesterday, bringing the caseload to 35,805. No new deaths were reported so the death toll stands at 476.
