Four Americans were safely evacuated from Afghanistan, a State Department official said.

"We have facilitated the departure of four American citizens from Afghanistan via an overland route. Our Embassy greeted the Americans as they crossed the border into the third country," the official said.

"The Taliban was aware and did not impede their transit," they added.

Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson shared a picture of the family after they were evacuated from Kabul on Twitter.

"After 2 weeks & multiple life threatening attempts, I am overjoyed to share that 4 U.S. citizens from #TX13 were part of the first successful ground evacuation since the U.S. left Kabul. Thank you to Cory Mills & the other patriots on his team for saving these BRAVE Americans," he tweeted.

The evacuation was the first since the final U.S. troops pulled out of Afghanistan on August 30. While there are no longer troops stationed in the country, the Biden administration has pledged to help the roughly 100 Americans who remain in Afghanistan.

"We are going to find ways to get them -- the ones that want to leave -- to get them out of Afghanistan. We know many of them have family members, many of them want to stay, but the ones that want to leave, we're going to get them out," White House chief of staff Ron Klain told CNN.
