Cedric Benson died Saturday (August 17) at the age of 36. The former NFL running back and University of Texas star was riding his motorcycle in West Austin, Texas with a female passenger when the bike hit a motorcycle around 10pm. According to the Austin-Travis County EMS (via Daily Mail), they responded to initial reports of a "vehicle and person on fire" after the crash. Both Benson and the passenger were declared dead at the scene. Two other adults involved in the crash suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Just hours before the accident, Benson posted a photo of his motorcycle on Instagram story with the caption "My Saturday evening." See the post below.

Benson played for the University of Texas from 2001-04 and was drafted No. 4 overall by the Chicago Bears in 2005. He was released by the Bears in June 2008 following his second alcohol-related arrest in five weeks. He later signed with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he played from 2008-11, and ended his career with the Green Bay Packers in 2012 after suffering a foot injury.

As KVUE reports, Benson appeared in court in Travis County to plead guilty to misdemeanor drunk-driving charges dating back to February 2017 two days before the tragic accident. At the time of writing, there have been no reports indicating whether or not alcohol was involved in the fatal crash.
