Woman Sues Hotel Chain For $100 Million After She Was Filmed In The Shower

A hotel guest is seeking $100 million in damages from Hilton Worldwide after she claims that somebody who works for the hotel chain filmed her in the shower while she stayed in a room at a Hampton Inn and Suites in Albany, New York. Then, a few years later, the person who secretly recorded the woman, contacted her and attempted to blackmail her so that the footage would remain private.

The video was filmed in 2015, while the Chicago woman, who asked to remain anonymous, was in New York to take the bar exam. However, she did not know about it until September 2018, when she received an email with a link to the video.

"It was like I had been hit by a truck. It just knocked the wind out of me," the woman told Good Morning America. "I had no idea who took the video. I had no idea who this guy was, and all I could think is my life is over."

The next day, she received another email which contained personal information, including the reason for her 2015 stay at Hampton Inn and Suites.

“I'm a perv. I don't hurt anyone. I like to watch,” one portion of the email read. “No need to worry about me I just like to watch and then I move on to the next.”

In another email, the blackmailer demanded that the woman make him his own private video, and when she failed to deliver on his demand, he released the videos publicly on pornographic websites and started sending the link to her family, friends, and co-workers. He then told her that if she sent him $1,000 per month and $2,000 upfront he would stop sending out the video.

“Time to talk yet?” the person threatened in an Oct. 26 email. “All those views are people you know. HUNDREDS. Some maybe watched more than once :) You want this to stop. You want me to stop. Right? Do I need more from ? [sic] Maybe you’re ready. I can do that. A little bit of money and it all goes away.”

The suspect has not been identified but the woman believes he works for the hotel chain and claims that another woman, who stayed in the same hotel room, was also a victim of the individual.

Hilton issued a statement saying they "find the details included in the civil filing distressing" and promised to help with the investigation.

"We take the safety and well-being of our guests incredibly seriously, and find the details included in the civil filing distressing. We will support the independent ownership and management of the property as they investigate, respond, and cooperate with any law enforcement investigations."
